An Ultra-Modern Interpretation of the Classic Family Home

This sleek, contemporary home is proof that you truly can have everything in your dream home – from a home cinema to a rock-climbing wall, or even a six-car turntable garage. Unlike many other minimalistic modern homes, however, we wanted to create a home that felt light, airy and spacious. We worked with architects John Alkemade & Associates to integrate plenty of natural materials into the build, such as the Blackbutt timber flooring in the first floor and basement that gives each area a feeling of warmth. This home is unique in that it redefines our idea of the typical family residence. The creative use of mixed materials throughout the home reflects its multi-faceted character. This is a residence with depth; it has all the vibrancy and space required in a family home yet exudes architectural sophistication. The living space includes an open-plan kitchen that leads out to the outdoor entertaining area, complete with a barbecue and a large deck. This flows out to the luscious backyard, where our client opted for a full landscaping package with Alto Landscaping, including a sophisticated infinity-edge pool. In each area of the home, we incorporated luxurious touches to ensure it exudes liveability and comfort. The Snow Stone White Polished Concrete installed throughout the kitchen and living area contains hydronic heating underneath, ensuring comfortable living all year round. The home was specifically customised to suit the evolving needs of our client’s family, with a purpose-built home theatre and a cellar created with solid Victorian Ash timber joinery, which offers a space to enjoy wine with friends and family. The six-car garage also features a custom-finish vehicle turntable. Meanwhile, an exposed suspended concrete slab with a recessed LED strip across the ceiling illuminates the basement in a design that feels effortless yet is undeniably modern and chic. Spaces throughout the home are connected by the abundance of light that seeps through from large windows, from floor to floor. The living area flows effortlessly from the ground floor up the magnificent floating staircase, with a lofty void area and a glass railing that creates a sense of openness, extending the gaze beyond the immediate vicinity of the space. Upstairs, spacious rooms and an abundance of windows with their leafy outlook make the home feel comfortable and open, yet secluded from the outside world. To keep the kids at bay, we installed a climbing wall frame & suspended bed in the kids’ bedroom, allowing them to entertain themselves in their own unique space. There truly is something for everyone in this contemporary family paradise.
