HERITAGE FAQs // Each heritage era has a series of notable features, and we're here to break them down for you so you can identify the era of your own home: ⠀ ⠀ 🌟Victorian (1840-1901). Typically made from brick with a front verandah, pitched roof and minimal fretwork. Homes built toward to end of this era may feature terraces, cast-iron lacework, fireplaces, moulded timberwork, decorative plaster ceilings, steep and narrow stairs or small windows. ⠀ ⠀ It's worth noting that Georgian, Gothic, Regency, Tudor and Italianate style homes are all encompassed in this era.⠀ ⠀ 🌟 Edwardian (1901-1910). Distinguished by their red brick exterior, stained glass, bay windows, return verandahs, tessellated tiles, pressed-metal ceilings, long central corridor, and terracotta tiles.⠀ ⠀ 🌟 Art Deco (1920-1930). Defined by curved façades, decorative brickwork, geometric elements, chevron patterns, metal-framed windows, parquetry floors, timber-veneer wall panelling and built-in joinery. ⠀ ⠀ There are of course many other eras of homes, but these are the most common architectural styles in Melbourne.
